Ahead of the DC FanDome event in August, Bloomberg reports that Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment is gearing up to announce two major video game titles shortly.
The first is a big-budget, open-world and free-roaming “Harry Potter” game in which players role-play as wizards and roam a vast, open-world re-creation of Hogwarts and its surrounding areas.
Footage from a very early version of it leaked online back in 2018 and has now been confirmed by the outlet. Those working on the project say while the video was authentic, most of the rumors that have come out since are not.
Avalanche Software (“Disney Infinity”) is the team developing the game and have had to whether numerous problems including the global pandemic, the fierce backlash against the franchise’s creator who has very little direct involvement in the game, and a possible sale of the Warner Bros. video game publishing business.
Despite all the anxiety-inducing issues, the game remains on track for a late 2021 release for numerous platforms including PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.
The other is a new “Batman” game, widely expected to be the next title in the “Batman: Arkham” series. That game will be announced at the DC FanDome event while the “Harry Potter” one, which was supposed to be revealed at E3, will be revealed shortly after.
